Roosevelt died and the cause he represented and led was nearing the conclusive phase of success..Government officials representatives of the membership of both houses of Congress heads of foreign missions and friends of the family.. Roosevelt's appearance and manner had brought anxiety to many regarding his health and there had been increasing speculation as to the effects his death would have on the national and world situation the fact stunned the Government and the citizens of the capital.. No President of the United States has died in circumstances so triumphant and yet so grave. The War of the States had been won by the Union when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and though the shadow of post-war problems hung heavy and dark the nation's troubles were internal

We visited the spot and the street being empty could imagine the sailors appearing from round the corner as though the intervening years had simply not happened.. Bulloch spent most of the war and many years after as a resident of Liverpool and we were able to visit his grave. He never made it back to his beloved Confederate states since many of his kind had to wait until it was safe to return after indulging in espionage- style activities.. It was also interesting to learn that he was related to Theodore Roosevelt who spent time with him when he visited the UK as President..Lane) where we searched for the grave of Alan Stuart Hanckel

Even the sight of my mother in intensive care before her death had not prepared me for this.. All the while the vast unit hummed away the good-natured nurses and youthful doctors taking turns attending patient after patient in various stages of near-demise.. Dee was in critical near grave condition and I was told This is as bad as it gets by one weary nurse.. In the ensuing days Dee s condition remained grave and though she had been stabilised by the intensive care unit her family and I had begun to talk about funeral arrangements.. Harry Truman resented the election of Attlee and was obdurate about a postwar healthcare scheme but had Franklin Delano Roosevelt lived he would have seen the post-war British model brought to the USA

I'm rather two faced on this issue. On one hand if Japan hadn't started the war there wouldn't have been a need to drop the bomb in the first place so tough.. "During his recitation of the relevant facts I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to him my grave misgivings first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment.. - Ike on Ike Newsweek 11/11/63 ~ADMIRAL WILLIAM D.
