C. A. Herter wife of the Secretary of State; and commissioned 27 October 1961 Capt.. It was in the last stages of her building at the New York Naval Shipyard on 19 December 1960 a fire broke out on Constellation's hangar deck.. Beginning on 5 April 1972 aircraft from Constellation along with those from Hancock Coral Sea and Kitty Hawk took part in Operation Freedom Train which involved Navy tactical air sorties against military and logistic targets in the southern part of North Vietnam that were involved in the invasion of the south.. The operating area in North Vietnam was limited initially to between 17 and 19 N. However special strikes were authorized against targets above the 19th parallel on various occasions

I watched the sunrise and the whales rising out of the water also.. In 15 minutes time I saw at least 6 whales breach clear of the water and splash back into the sea. I saw many tail slaps flipper slaps and slumbering whales on the surface.. Maybe I missed it somewhere but I thought the ships were self-contained and the cruise lines didn t dump at sea anymore

The entrance for a ship this size is miniscule and if it were really windy there is no way a ship this size could safely make it to port.. We grabbed some pastries and coffee at the International Café and then went out on the Promenade deck to view the scenery as we docked.. For the main course I had the Gratinated Sea Scallops on a bed of Vegetables with Chive Mash.. The sea scallops were excellent and the veggies and mash were very good

Sunday 24th Jan 10 - Day at Sea Last day at sea (thank goodness in my opinion) - rather a long route as well to do only a short distance to the next port of St Maarten! Can't really write too much about today as another day at sea is much rather like any other for me! I went to the church service in the Arena (a traditional maritime church service) and a collection was held to help the Haitian earthquake victims. It was very nice as I haven't been to church for a couple of years let alone a service on a ship! 11.45am I found myself

On 13 June 1955 she sailed from Glasgow on a series of sea trials that lasted until 17 June.. When she sailed at 2000 hours on Friday 9 April a group of Vosper Thornycroft workers went with her to finish the forward flight deck.. History was made shortly before lunch the following day when an RAF Sea King helicopter made the first of many landings on the midships flight deck.. Three days later she was seven hundred miles away and steaming straight for the Falklands which were now under air and sea attack from British forces

However HRH Prince Charles was the first "civilian" passenger to board the ship on her voyage from the shipyard in Clydebank to drydock in Greenock.. to be able to yank aircraft right out of the sky.. The atmosphere is thick and has descended almost to sea level to create a mist impenetrable by even the latest visual surveillance equipment..
