I'm doing a project with tiger maple. I used a test piece of wood with some Zinsser's shellac and it looked very good.. On the project I sanded down to 220...lots

The test piece I used was a cutoff from the project so it's the same wood. I can believe that the 220 was much finer as I worked with it.. I think I'll just run over it with some lower grit (new paper on the ROS) then reapply the shellac.. i'm more inclined to bet you just have two different pieces of wood that have differen't characteristics

Frame with wood
07:32 24-Oct-09
By: Bill ThompsonNM
In my parents house I framed with finished wood both sides but only grouted between tiles. I then got matching "sanded caulk" from the tile store which matched the grout color exactly (it's made by the grout company).. I caulked the openings between the tile and wood it's flexible but with the sand in it looks just like the grout! No cracks..

Lancers21 good luck with the puppets - when my children were younger we had kits from opitec for simple puppets - they were called Fidgety Philip and were basically discs of wood that had to be cut and sanded then joined together by a series of hooks and eyes - painted and there..you had a puppet who was very active just with a jiggle! Re: Replacing Wood Trim with Brushed Aluminum

I saw a guy come to one of my old dealerships and he just had the wood pulled out and painted with silver and clear...came out sick! I might try the same thing but with rattle can paint and clear...if it doesn't work it can just be sanded and done over at the body shop too.. I'm gonna try the same thing with the wood. I also considered getting creative and seeing if something like running paint bristles through the paint in a different color of silver than the first coat then clear coating the whole thing

I know there have been many posts in the past on this mostly on painting the wood..but I think I am the first to recolor the wood? 1. I sanded the wood panels down with the 500 grit almost to the wood layer..takes some time and a mess of dust :-) I then took the 1000 hrit and finely got to the wood layer.. I then took apart the center console (mine is a 6 sped..so easier) took the ash tray apart took the wood off of the base...mush easier to work with. Same process as above.... Once completely dry (waited 30 hours) I lightly sanded the imperfections out with the 3000 grit paper

Renewing the wood finish on your center console DIY

4.) Rejuvenation of the wood is easier than you might think.. Start with 320/400 grit sandpaper and use left to right motions.. Then move to 600 with vertical motions until you can no longer see the scratches from the first sanding.. I wet sanded mine although that's really just preference as dry sanding will work.. 7.) Finally all you have to do is re-laminate the aluminum/wood piece with its plastic bracket

I think it is a veneer because I did a water test that a friend told me to do and I could see like new fresh grains of wood underneath.. Veneers act the exact same way that wood does (after all it is wood) so it'd be difficult to distinguish between the veneer and body wood.. Quote: Edit: Well I would have more pictures except for some reason the thing is impossible to focus on even with macro on so I can't really get close for a photo or take a better photo.. Maybe when applying the veneer the wood under it wasn't perfectly sanded? Imo I would go with a solid color

wood trim gtfo!

By: bmdubbayoo
so when i first bought this m3 i fell in love with everything but the wood trim interior....are a tad bit shorter and they feel solid with the weighted knob.... the next piece was the trim above the glovebox and the two ashtrays...i sanded down the clear coat and put several coats of black...at first i had intentions of clearcoating the painted pieces but realized that the matte finish will look much better with the interior.... the shifter console had a few flaws like dimples from shit hitting it and cracks....so i filled them with some putty and sanded it flush after it dried..

looks good but i can see where you sanded the glovebox trim. I would suggest sanding lightly again and go over with another coat

Wood trim + sandpaper + spraypaint = brushed Aluminium (no 56K)

Started with a 220-grit wet-n-dry sanded off the clear-coat & smoothed out the wood.. When I went to get the paint the dude reckoned I should go for a rougher grit so that the paint held properly so I figured why not see what happens and picked up some 120 wet n dry.. After much experimenting on some old wood I had lying around turned out I could get a really good finish with just the 120 grit paper and then the spray can

i want wood trim dude you should have sanded it after you took the sticker off to get rid of the rough edges..to rough up the surface a little then i sanded it cleaned it off and put about 8-10 thin coats of red paint.. it had a slight texture and after it had dried i used some rough paper and a block of wood to sand the paint off the raised lettering untill i sanded back to bare metal then i sanded it with smoother grit paper and used a little metal polish on the raised lettering.. also painted the exhaust heat shield and the intake pipe i used to make my own short ram intake with it came out quite well if you ask me
