hello i build an electronic circuit and i connected it to a switch with a 4 AA battery pack now all good but when i turn off the switch after few min the battry pack is hot as fire.

What should I do with dead batteries I thought you shouldn't throw them in the trash they need to be recycled but what places take them? I have bags of them I try to use the rechargebales now but some of the dead ones leaked how dangerous is the liquid
better buy on batteries
