vBulletin Setup Keywords, how many is too many?

This is just a question in general. How many keywords is too many to be SE friendly? Or I guess I should say characters, I I have seen some say 150 char. and then I have seen some 170.. Now today I found a place that said up to 1000 char. was ok.....
